There are many weird and wonderful claims in the world of wine but the wine maker here claims to improve the wine by sending the crushed grapes on a three day refrigerated road trip from the West Coast of Australia where the fruit is grown to the Hunter Valley where it is fermented and bottled. The claim is that this extended maceration improves the colour and extraction of the wine.
What I do know is this wine is deep purple in colour with an abundant nose of blackcurrants and liquorice with a hint of chocolate. In the mouth these dark fruits repeat themselves all wrapped up in a healthy dose of sweet vanilla. Whilst this is not overdone this is not a wine for the shy and retiring.
Best served with something hearty and rich.
