Yorkshire is undoubtedly one of the best counties for Game shooting with its varied landscapes from the dales to the moors and the flatlands of the Humber estuary it produces some wonderful free range meat and it is no wonder so many of the county’s best restaurants feature this bounty on their menu’s.
For me the perfect wine to accompany Game is a Pinot Noir. Now this is the most fickle of grapes it needs a difficult climate and poor soil to really express itself so rarely is it good value but there are regions of the world that are now producing interesting affordable versions. Though if money is no object then head straight to Burgundy for the world’s greatest expressions of this queen of grapes.
Emiliana Reserva Pinot Noir, Casablanca, Chile 2011
Amazingly good value wine. It has bright red fruit, lovely mushroom, sweet farmyard aromas. Best served ever so slightly chilled to allow the acidity to cut through any fattiness of the meat.
